Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood has been accused of assaulting a woman after she published a video purporting to show she has been abused.
The Instagram story appeared to show her bleeding from the mouth alongside the caption "to everyone who wants to know what Mason Greenwood actually does to me".
On Sunday morning, Greater Manchester Police said that officers were looking into content shared on social media.
A spokesman said: "Greater Manchester Police is aware of images and videos circulating on social media.
"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances."
Further clips appeared to show bruising to her legs, eye, thigh and arms.
She also uploaded an audio note where a woman can be heard apparently refusing to have sex with a man - who she calls Mason.
When the woman says "I don't want to have sex", the man says he "doesn't care" and when told to stop again he says "I asked you politely, and you wouldn't do it, so what else do you want me to do?".
He can then be heard saying: "Push me again one more time and watch what happens to you."
In a statement, Manchester United said: "We are aware of images and allegations circulating on social media.
"We will not make any further comment until the facts have been established.
"Manchester United does not condone violence of any kind."
Greenwood, 20, has played 87 times for Manchester United since 2018.
In August 2020, he was named in the England senior squad for the first time by Gareth Southgate.
He made his debut a month later in a 1-0 win over Iceland in a UEFA Nations League match having come on as a 78th-minute substitute.
