My parents never speak a word of English with me their whole life (both are retired, grassroots, ordinary Hong Kong people). I dont need them to do that for me as well.
I love them both when they speak Cantonese with me, and I also love the fact that they let me pick a dominant language for myself freely, so I can be at peace with myself.
My point is that your child is probably smart enough to be proficient in two languages by the time they reach 18 like me, without having white parents, deep pocket, or hiring private exam coaches. The key is pace. Let your child grow naturally and he or she will know what is best for themselves.
