Open Letter to Students
Dear Students,
To protect the safety and well-being of the entire CUHK community, the University implemented campus access control measures in November 2019 in response to a series of illegal activities that occurred on campus. Regrettably, over the past months, there have been continuous reports and complaints about the violation of such measures by some students, which involved refusal to show identification documents and/or verbal or physical assaults against university personnel who are authorized to carry out these measures.
The University reiterates that such misbehaviours endanger the safety and well-being of campus members, and are totally unacceptable, particularly from students of an institution of higher education. Students who have violated the measures are liable for the consequence of their own misconduct and will be subject to the University’s disciplinary procedures.
To prevent such inappropriate activities on campus, the nine Colleges and the Graduate School of the University have taken a united stance to coordinate and enforce disciplinary measures against students who have violated campus access control measures. Resulting penalties will depend on the frequency and severity of the offence that may range from refusal to show CUHK Link Card, verbal abuse or insult of university personnel carrying out campus access control measures, and physical assaults that may cause bodily harm to other person(s). Students may receive warning letters for refusal to show identification documents when accessing the University campus. Repeated and serious offences will result in demerits and eventually dismissal from the University.
We hope students will cherish the opportunity to study on campus and, as a member of CUHK, abide by the campus regulations.
