Dear Students and Colleagues,
The University would like to draw your attention to the following clarifications in response to City Broadcasting Channel (“CBC”)’s post on social media regarding the revised Code of Student Conduct and Disciplinary Procedure (“the Code”).
It is the University’s regular procedure to review and revise the Code, and report to the Senate annually on student discipline (“SD”) cases along with proposed revisions to the Code for clarifications and updates as necessary. The procedure follows due process involving student representatives to obtain official endorsements on the revisions. The revised Code included editorial changes, clarifications on existing terms and clauses, provisions of examples that clarify the ‘improper or inappropriate behaviour amounting to misconduct’ stated in the existing Code.
It is also noted that the post issued by CBC on social media and subsequently reported on newspaper dated 2 November 2020 contained misinterpretation and misquotation of the Code. The University condemns such a misleading post on social media.
The University hereby makes the above clarifications to set the record straight.
Professor Horace Ip
Vice-President (Student Affairs)
