Harvey Weinstein was one of two inmates to test positive for coronavirus in New York’s Wende Correctional Facility, according to officials who spoke to The Niagara Gazette on Sunday.
The 68-year-old producer—who was hospitalized earlier this month for chest pains—is reportedly being isolated at the maximum-security prison.
According to officials, Weinstein was likely carrying the virus when he was transferred from Rikers Island last Wednesday.
A representative for Weinstein contacted by The Daily Beast was not aware of the diagnosis. The state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision would not confirm the Weinstein diagnosis, citing federal health-care privacy law, but said that two inmates at Wende tested positive for the coronavirus.
Less than two weeks ago, Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison after being convicted of rape and committing a criminal sexual act.
Earlier this weekend, Variety reported that Los Angeles County took the first step in extraditing Weinstein for a second trial on rape and sexual-assault charges by filing a detainer against Wende Correctional Facility. Weinstein has denied all allegations of nonconsensual acts.
