Hey guys, I am doing a research on Anti-ELAB and I have some questions.
What is the role of Cantonese in Anti-ELAB? How Cantonese is being used in this social movement?
Thank you

1. Creating a sense of identity
2. A unifying cause

Asking the effect on the movement Or are you asking how it is USED in protests ah?

Cantonese is part of HKer's language identity and local consciousness. it acts as an opposition to putonghua and mainland Chinese culture, which is considered uncivilized in most aspects.
I study sociolinguistics and I just wrote sth on this as my term paper a few days ago, hope that helps

Language affecting formation/ understanding of certain ideas (See Newspeak from 1984), it can control ideas in a society/ discourse

Use of languages can also be an act of identity alignment (See romanization of Japanese / Cyrillization of Chinese)
