Subject: IMPORTANT: Caution Against Applications from Hong Kong Students
Dear Headmaster/Headmistress:
I am writing to suggest you exercising extreme caution in reviewing admission applications from Hong Kong students, with respect to whether their parents are police officers, which should be carefully verified and considered in the assessment.
Hong Kong is on the verge of a humanitarian crisis, as police brutality against supporters of the democratic movement escalates.
Arrested protesters face physical abuse and humiliation by the police. A female protester openly spoke of an unnecessary and degrading strip search she went through. More sexual abuse cases remain unreported. Detained protesters were denied timely access to medical and legal assistance.
Use of force is excessive and indiscriminate. A high school student was shot in his left lung by a live police round at close range and was denied for emergency treatment. Beanbag shots and plastic pellets by the police had blinded the eyes of a first-aider and a foreign journalist. The riot police attacked innocent subway passengers whom they claimed were rioters in disguise. As of now the police have fired more than 5,000 tear gas cans, many of which had expired and might have turned chemically dangerous to human health.
The police call protesters “cockroaches”. Brutal crackdowns and pre-emptive violence against them are hence regarded as acceptable pest control to curb free speech.
There are now international efforts, such as the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act of 2019 to be passed in the US, trying to sanction Hong Kong police and their families, and classify them as terrorists. If justice does exist in our world, they will be eventually prosecuted by legal authorities including the International Crime Court for crimes against humanity.
Having committed war crimes, the police are worried about the safety of their children, who are now carrying personal alarms all the time, inside and outside schools. They are urgently sending their children to schools overseas, particularly the UK, as reported by Chinese-language newspapers Apple Daily on September 23: https://hk.news.appledaily.com/local/daily/article/20190923/20773403
As a result, in reviewing applications from Hong Kong students with police parents, you may want to consider whether the applicants appreciate liberty and justice, whether they will make conflicts with their classmates, whether they will harm your school reputation, and whether they will be able to pay school fees as their parents will be jailed. The names of some senior police officers can be found at government telephone directory: https://www.directory.gov.hk/basic_search.jsp?lang=eng
Thank you very much for your kind attention.
Yours faithfully,
One of the many Hong Kong citizens under the threat of life from the police
