Let me start by saying declaring to withdraw the bill is exceptionally beneficial to her with little harm

First conspiracy: “to legitimize our cause.”
After withdrawing the bill, if we are to protest again, she could repeat what the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council said. She could say that this protest is no longer about the bill. It is instead a foreign staged rebellion to overthrow “one country, two systems” and make Hong Kong independent.

The second conspiracy: “to claim that we are not interested in solving the crisis and that we only want to destroy Hong Kong.”
Before, the protesters were always attacking her for not willing to negotiate and avoid responding to the demands. The demonstrators also criticized her for being a liar and never do as she said. Now that she has announced the withdrawal, she has demonstrated her “goodwill”, so the protesters should not escalate the conflict. If the protest continues, despite Carrie Lam “trying to solve the crisis”, it would make the protesters seem like they don’t want to fix the problem.

Third conspiracy: “to further the crackdown.”

Now that she is withdrawing the bill, there is no reason for protest again. Then she could say that any doubts against the law enforcement are just protesters finding a scapegoat for their anger. Therefore she could call every protester as a rioter, declare the entire movement as a riot and initiate a further crackdown. (Translator: not sure how she could retrospectively do that but OK)

Fourth conspiracy: “to reject applications for protesting.”

Now that the cause is legitimized, we cannot protest against the bill. If we change the application against police violence, the police can say that we are inciting violence and reject the requests. They can say that any protests targeting the police will inevitably affect their ability in enforcing the law and threaten the safety of policemen. As such they could reject all applications for rallies and protests.

Fifth conspiracy; “to reduce the number of protesters.”
If the police reject our request to rally, these rallies will then become illegal gatherings. This will scare off ordinary citizens like teachers and lawyers. With fewer protesters, the protest would be less effective.

Sixth conspiracy: “to prosecute protesters with rioting.”
When there is no bill, there is no reason to protest. Anyone who still protests can be declared an extremist that wanted to disrupt ordinary people’s lives and are therefore rioters. This will help the government in their cases against protesters.

I hope that no matter what happens, we would all come out and protest. We cannot repeat the mistakes of the umbrella movement.
