In 2007, before the judicial review was completed, the government forcibly demolished Queen’s Pier in Central, a first-class historic building in Central. Carrie Lam arrived at the site to talk to the protesters and claimed that the reestablishment of the can be completed in 2013 – yet there are no updates at all.
In 2011, Carrie Lam claimed that she will make “resolute effort” to rectify the squatting problem, making no amnesty to anyone. When it was found that many senior government officials and council members had illegal construction involved, she took no action to prosecute them. Former Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying got away by simply saying "I didn’t say that I did not have illegal constructions”. The illegal structures in the New Territories villages were only investigated and not dealt with.
In 2012, she pointed out her worries that the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) and the Office of the Ombudsman would become major obstacles to the government's administration and affect the government's executive power.
During the Occupy movement in 2014, Carrie Lam was sent to talk to the student protesters; yet she only reiterated the government's arguments and insisted on clearing the scene with violence; those student protesters were arrested and charged.
In 2015, it was found that the lead content of drinking water in many public and private housing estates, schools and other places found have exceeded the safety standard. Carrie Lam and several officials were suspected of misrepresenting the situation because the company involved in the incident was based in mainland China; Carrie Lam also said that requiring government officials to drink the contaminated water - which they claim is “safe” - was an “unacceptable humiliation”. She also denied to hold involved officials accountable (the responsible officer, Director of Housing Mr Stanley YING Yiu-hong was even awarded the Golden Bauhinia Star), claiming that “boldness comes when government officials desire nothing.”
In 2016, she stated that it is impossible to agree to all provisions in the Basic Law – the mini-constitution of Hong Kong.
In 2017, she openly harboured the Secretary of Justice Teresa Cheng, who was known to have broken the laws and involved in numerous controversies.
In 2018, she forcibly pushed forward the “Lantau Tomorrow Vision” land-reclamation project with a total estimate cost of about HKD 900 billion, ignoring its safety issues, economic efficiency, and environmental damages.
In 2019, Carrie Lam raised the threshold of application for the elderly to apply to the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance.
In 2019, Hong Kong was ranked the most difficult place to buy a property in the global property market for the 9th consecutive year (far more difficult than Vancouver, which was ranked the 2nd). During the first two years of Carrie Lam’s term, the number of applicants on public housing waiting list reached a 19-year high. In 2019, the Extradition Bill was forcibly introduced; the bill blatantly undermines The “One Country, Two Systems” principle and destroys the rule of law in Hong Kong, disregards the safety and freedom of the people. Hong Kong will lose its status as an international financial centre. Only a few senior government officials would benefit from the law.
Since the proposal of the bill, oppositions came in globally. Despite numerous open letters from multinational councillors, committee members and professional bodies, protests of over a million people, multiple anti-extradition gatherings, and six suicides, the Government turned a blind eye to the opposing voice.

In order to forcibly pass the bill, the Government allegedly engaged with a network of corporations (such as the MTR), police force, squires and mobsters to slander and suppress the citizens and protesters with white terror and violence, affecting also uninvolved citizens and tourists. The events have completely ruined the rule of law in Hong Kong, and pushed the city beyond the point of no return.
