Concerning a recent conflict between students from Hong Kong and the mainland
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing in response to the captioned incident. I have recently come across a video clip of the incident and, though I have no connection with the University, I would like to express my concern against the potentially harmful behaviour of the students from mainland.
I am sure you are aware of the incident as well as the situation in Hong Kong. From the clip, it is apparent that the Hong Kong students were engaged in a presentation about the political situation. Sadly, the mainland students used abusive words and posted pictures and videos of the incident on social media and used wordings that very much represent hate speech. The involved students from the mainland also, by doing so, encourage others to engage in a similar behaviour. With photos of the Hong Kong students posted on social media, I fear for their psychological as well as physical well-being.
I have no intention in interfering with the University’s affairs, but I would urge the University to respond in a proactive manner to discourage such discriminative behaviour.
