But Watzke has rubbished Segura’s comments, claiming they are no closer to signing Dembele than when they first made contact with Dortmund.

"It is clear that Barcelona want to sign Ousmane Dembele, but they have not approached one millimetre," Watzke told Kicker.

Dembele has already been punished by Dortmund after failing to turn up to pre-season training as he looks to force through a move to Barca - and is said to be on strike in France.

Segura was speaking after Barcelona’s 5-1 aggregate defeat to Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup - and Watzke suggests the loss must have confused him.

"His intervention comes after the dizziness of Real Madrid in the Supercopa."
