Report: Arsenal will try to sign £30m man one final time; Edu will move on if bid's rejected
The Guardian have shed some more light on the most bizarre transfer pursuit of the summer – Arsenal trying to sign Aaron Ramsdale.
The Gunners are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper. Bernd Leno’s future is up in the air, while Runar Alex Runarsson is simply not good enough. Arthur Okonkwo is a fine prospect, but he’s not ready yet, while Maty Ryan is no longer an option either.
Arsenal have to bring in a new goalkeeper to either compete with or replace Leno. We’ve been linked with a ton of names recently, but rumours about Ramsdale have really baffled all of us.
Arsenal have had two bids rejected for Aaron Ramsdale
Ramsdale was a key part of the Sheffield United side that got relegated last season. The Blades would ideally like to keep their star players, but they’re prepared to sell if their valuation is met.
For the Englishman, Sheffield United are demanding a staggering £30 million including add-ons. That is an outrageous amount of money for a goalkeeper who has been relegated in each of his last two Premier League seasons.
That, however, hasn’t seemed to have deterred Arsenal. The Gunners have already had two bids rejected for Ramsdale, but it doesn’t look like we’re giving up just yet. Edu is reportedly ready to launch one final offer for the Blades star, and if that’s rejected, we’ll likely look elsewhere.
No football fan wishes for their club’s transfer offer to be rejected, but many Arsenal fans are in that position now. It makes no sense whatsoever for Edu to target Ramsdale, let alone splash something close to £30 million for him.
Don’t get us wrong, Ramsdale is a good goalkeeper. He’s still only 23, he is an England international and he has had his brilliant individual moments in the Premier League over the last two seasons.
However, Arsenal need someone who will push Leno just like Emi Martinez did in the season before he left. Ramsdale, in most people’s eyes, is not that player, and we can only hope that the Blades will reject our final offer and we move on.
